Truthfully, i’ve never really been into lipgloss. Whenever I think of glosses, I think of those thick, sticky glosses that almost cement your lips together, and leave those icky, gooey strings when you open your lips. You know what I mean, right?
Still, i’m always waiting for something to change my mind about something, and I think the Hi-Fi Shine Ultra Cushion Lipgloss from Urban Decay has done a great job of getting me excited about glosses again. I saw these on Instagram MONTHS ago; and I immediately knew I needed to have these in my life. I didn’t like glosses, but I needed these. I loves me some Urban Decay, so i’m always looking to try something new from them – after all, it was the brand that sent me on my makeup journey…
I love a good package…
On my birthday, I had popped into my local Debenhams and was thrilled to see these had finally made their way to the UD counter. I had no hesitations when it came to slapping a few of these on my husbands plastic (to be fair, he offered) plus I had £20 of BeautyClub points to redeem, so it wasn’t all bad. There are 30 shades of lipgloss all together, and I settled with 5 shades: 1993, Backtalk and Shadowheart (after 3 of my favourite VICE lipsticks), Dirty Talk and Snapped.
The glosses come packaged in simple holographic cartons, and the component inside is just so cute. These would look so beautiful on your makeup table. There is around 7mls of product in each tube, which feels pretty standard for a lipgloss. They retails for £15 each, which compared to Urban Decay pricing, is pretty much what I would have expected, as lipsticks are usually around this price, maybe a little more.
Oooh it tingles…!
The glosses are formulated with Vitamin E to nourish and keep lips feeling hydrated, alongside some Peppermint oil to give a naturally plumped effect. They also have a delicious vanilla-mint kind of flavour. Not that you should really be licking lipgloss, but like, if you do, it does happen to taste very nice. When I first applied, I wasn’t really expecting the tingle… it’s not unpleasant, and doesn’t feel at all like it’s burning. In the past, sometimes when they use Peppermint in a lip product, it can sometimes feel like it’s burning, rather than tingling – but it’s definitely a tingle here, and it’s actually quite nice!
Not too sticky!
One of my biggest bug-bears with Lipglosses, is when they have a very heavy, very sticky formula that feels like it’s going to cement your mouth shut. For some people, that would be a blessing, but more often than not, it’s just annoying and it looks icky. I’ve not had that issue with any of the Hi-Fi Shine glosses that I have tried. There is a slight tackiness to them (as to be expected) but it’s not heavy. It doesn’t leave those little stringy bits when you try to open your mouth either. They do feel nice and hydrating on the lips.
Naturally, they are not the most long-wearing – as soon as you eat or drink anything, it’s gone and leaving slightly sticky lip prints on everything. It’s not the end of the world, but be prepared to reapply! Out of the shades that I have tried, ‘Snapped’ is probably my favourite. It has such a beautiful iridescence to it that looks great on bare lips. The shimmer somehow just sits perfectly in the middle of my lips, and it does give them a nice full look. ‘1993’ and ‘Backtalk’ are perfect for when you want to go without makeup, but still want a little something for a bit of a ‘glow’. They are very neutral/nude glosses with minimal pigment – they are more about the shine.
The other metallic shades I tried (‘Dirty Talk’ and ‘Shadowheart’) look pretty too, but if i’m going for a shimmery lip, ‘Snapped’ is ultimately the one I reach for every time. I’m going to be rocking that one a lot this summer!
